E. Şirin Özgün, born in 1977, graduated from Galatasaray High School. He studied sociology at Boğaziçi University. Then, ITU Dr. Erol Üçer completed his master's and doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). Her master's thesis titled 'Drummer Women of Anatolia' is the result of a field study on the musical and ritual practices of tambourine women in Central Anatolia. His doctoral thesis titled 'The Sounds of Political Actions in the Streets of Istanbul' is based on an intensive field research spanning three years by listening, recording and interpreting the sounds of the protests in Istanbul. E. Şirin Özgün, who gave lectures in the field of music at various universities between 2007 and 2010, worked as a research assistant at MIAM from 2010 until her doctoral graduation in 2012. Between 2012 and 2015, he taught as a lecturer at the Department of Musicology at ITU State Conservatory of Turkish Music. After receiving the title of Associate Professor in 2014, she started working as Deputy Director at MIAM and teaching ethnomusicology courses at MIAM. Her research interests can be listed as gender studies in music, soundscape studies and the effects of politics on musical expression. She has been conducting field research on the sound worlds of Yoruks since 2018.
