- Music Doctoral Program is subject to Istanbul Technical University Graduate Level Regulations and Senate Principles.
- The educational language of the program is %100 English.
- The number of credits required for graduation is 36. Students that finish all their courses (36 credits) enter the doctoral qualification exams.
- Excluding the time reserved for scientific preparation, the completion time of the doctoral program:
- for the students accepted with a master’s degree, starting from the term of first course registration, and irrespective of the condition whether they registered each term or not is 8 terms with the maximum limit of 12 terms.
- for the students accepted with an undergraduate degree, starting from the term of first course registration, and irrespective of the condition whether they registered each term or not is 10 terms with the maximum limit of 14 terms.
The maximum time available to complete the courses with credits with success:
- for the students accepted with a master’s degree is 4 terms.
- for the students accepted with an undergraduate degree is 6 terms.
Students who cannot complete their required courses with credits within the maximum time period are dismissed from the university. Students who cannot complete their courses with success or achieve the minimum GPA required by the university during this time are dismissed from the university. (Istanbul Technical University Graduate Level Regulations – Section 17)
- Students who complete their courses enter the doctoral qualification exam. Doctoral qualification exams are carried out at the end of each term, a total of 2 times a year.
- Students accepted with a master’s degree, who have completed their courses, and have a minimum GPA of 3,00 must enter the doctoral qualification exams at the end of the 5th term at the very latest. If they don’t they are accounted as unsuccessful.
- Students accepted with an undergraduate degree, who have completed their courses, and have a minimum GPA of 3,00 must enter the doctoral qualification exams at the end of the 7th term at the very latest. If they don’t they are accounted as unsuccessful.
If a student who has applied for the doctoral qualification exam, does not enter the exam, they are accounted as unsuccessful. If a student cannot pass their first doctoral qualification exam, enters the next exam the following term. If a student fails at their second attempt, they are dismissed from the university. Doctoral qualification exams are organized and carried out by the Doctoral Qualification Exams Comitee in accordance with the terms specified by the Senate. - Students who have passed their doctoral qualifications exams graduate from the Music Doctoral Program by writing a Doctoral Dissertation.
- Graduates of the Music Doctoral Program receive a “Doctoral Diploma” in the area of music.
