Oğul Köker got his BA from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Musicology Department in 2014. He continued his studies at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences and got his MA in Music in 2018. Since 2018, he has been working towards a PhD in Music at ITU Graduate School.
Köker was part of a research group of engineers and musicologists between the years 2016 and 2018, working on a TÜBİTAK*-funded research project to assess if it is possible to produce computer-based aids to increase the reliability of the admission exams of conservatories. Since 2017, Köker has been working as a research assistant at ITU Graduate School.
Currently, Köker is working on his dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Fatma Belma Oğul (ITU) and Dr. Paul Harkins (Edinburgh Napier University), intending to contribute to the literature discussing the soundness of the common narrative that correlates technological development with the democratisation of music. To this end, Köker conducted his fieldwork under the supervision of Dr. Paul Harkins in Edinburgh on the users of the Eurorack synthesisers and their creative practices, thanks to the 2214-A fellowship programme of TÜBİTAK*.
Köker also performs under the moniker Boxticker.
